- Initiate, carry out and support research projects contributing to the scientific knowledge of Canada's official language minorities.
- Initiate, carry out and support research projects that can contribute to actions and policies aimed at fostering the vitality of Canada's official language minorities.
- Collaborate with community agencies and government bodies interested in issues regarding Canada's official language minorities in order to help promote research.
- Create exchange and collaboration opportunities among researchers interested in the issue of official language minorities.
- Make an inventory of all research related to CIRLM's mandate.
- Organize events for bringing together researchers and sharing with community and government representatives the knowledge gained on the realities and challenges of Canada's official language minorities.
